Elon Musk Moves HQs to Texas
Elon Musk has declared that California's new gender identification law was the "final straw," prompting him to move the headquarters of SpaceX and X to Texas.
The billionaire stated on X on Tuesday that SpaceX will relocate from Hawthorne, California, to Starbase, Texas, and X will move from San Francisco to Austin.
The recent law, signed by California Governor Gavin Newsom, prevents school districts from requiring staff to inform parents about their child's gender identification change.
"This is the final straw," Mr. Musk wrote. "I made it clear to Governor Newsom about a year ago that laws like this would force families and companies to leave California to protect their children."
Tesla, where Musk serves as chief executive, previously moved its corporate headquarters to Austin from Palo Alto, California, in 2021.
Musk also mentioned relocating his residence from California to Texas, which does not have a state personal income tax.
On Monday, Bloomberg reported that Musk was donating to a political group supporting presidential candidate Donald Trump, a figure reported by the Wall Street Journal to be around $45 million (£35 million) a month.
This decision marks another significant shift for Musk, who continues to make headlines with his business and personal moves.
